Reinventing the gear-wheel

Technology historians discuss research findings in a recent New York Times article on ancient technology:

It seems clear . . . that 'much of the mind-boggling technological sophistication available in some parts of the Hellenistic and Greco-Roman world was simply not transmitted further'.
And yet another reason to hang on to the user manual.
