Congratulations! Chicago e-Learning and Technology Showcase
Much applause for the organizers of the Chicago e-Learning and Technology Showcase. They delivered a stimulating day of demonstrations and practical sessions for instructional designers, technical writers and learning developers. What I liked best was the mixture of cutting edge and every day, just what I need for my business. While we'd all like to be doing the really cool stuff, most projects are more mundane. It's important to know how to do the ordinary well while striving to introduce extraordinary new methods and technologies.

Instructional Design in STC Chicago
Several folks at the recent e-Learning Showcase asked me about other instructional design meetings they could attend, and I pointed them to the online event calendars for STC, CISPI and CCASTD. Their questions got me thinking about the existing PDN/SIG (professional development networks / special interest groups) associated with these three groups. The CCASTD site maintains a list of the relevant PDNs for instructional designers.
How many of you belong to the ID&L (Instructional Design & Learning) SIG through your STC membership? Is there any interest in holding a regional ID&L meeting this Fall in Chicago?

We like to meet, talk, catch up on the latest in news, technology, and job opportunities. Forget those stereotypes of introverted technical writers: we are a social bunch.

August At-a-Glance Photo Identified
This month's At-a-Glance photo contest featured a close-up of the Bob Newhart statue at Navy Pier. Commissioned by the TV Land network, the statue depicts Oak Park native Bob Newhart as his character on The Bob Newhart Show, the Chicago-based psychologist Dr. Robert Hartley. Don't forget to say "Hi Bob!" the next time you're there!
Congratulations to all who guessed. To find out who was quickest on the draw, go to our website.
