Cancer Survivor's Memorial in Winter White

This month's At-a-Glance Photo Contest featured a closeup of the metal pavilion found at Cancer Survivor's Garden in Chicago. This beautiful garden is tucked away at the far end of East Randolph Street near Chicago's lakefront.

If you look closely at this photo, you'll notice the Field Museum of Natural History in the distance, along a stretch of South Lakeshore Drive.

Congratulations are due to this month's contest winner and to all who participated. The winner will receive a $20 gift card from Amazon.com. To learn who that winner is, visit www.stc-chicago.org.

Blogs of a Member

http://stc-chicago-jim.blogspot.com/ has a fictional story of how a freelancer developed a logo for a usability outfit. Please take a look; informed feedback is welcome, of course. This blog is called 'Technically Visual Communication' and has a number of drawings and mock (and real) ads.

PS I have two other blogs also: cartoons-jim.blogspot.com has many cartoons and drawings of mine.

And akn6z.wordpress.com is 'About Mandarin Chinese'

If you're wondering who you might meet at one of these events, check out the following chart. Event organizers recently published attendee demographics:

About the Event

Date: Thursday, February 19, 2009
Time: 6:30pm - 9pm

Cost: The event is free. RSVPs are required.

Agile 2009 Conference in Chicago

Agile 2009 takes place in Chicago on August 24-28. Those interested in agile software development will have plenty of opportunities to get up to speed on the latest developments in the field. Innovate sessions abound. You can read more about conference offerings here.

The topic of agile development is a perennial favorite at STC, so I checked to see if any sessions on agile techniques would be offered at the 2009 Summit in Atlanta. I found two: Using Agile Scrum to Improve Documentation Team Agility by Steve Lawrenson and Expediting Feature Content Development in an Agile Environment by Megan Leney.

For additional information about agile methodologies, see Agile Technical Documentation by Jean-Luc Mazet and Mobile and Agile: The Floating Writer's Survival Kit by Alyssa Fox and Meredith Kramer. Both articles can be found on the WritersUA website.
